An Introduction by Dave H.

For centuries, the world has been plagued by war--leaving behind countless death and destruction. One would think that mankind, the most brilliant and intelligent species, would eventually learn from its mistakes, set aside hatred, and strive for peace and harmony. But instead, humanity continues to develop new weapons, each more devastating than the last, in the relentless pursuit of dominance and control. The hunger for bloodshed culminated in the creation of the most destructive weapon of all: the nuclear bomb. Several were unleashed upon Earth, resulting in the loss of millions of lives being lost and the ruins of natural environments. But this reckless act of inhumanity is not without an ENORMOUS consequence.

A monstrous metaphor for mankind's folly awakened from years of deep slumber. In the form of a gigantic prehistoric creature with jagged dorsal plates and armed with a fiery, atomic breath, it emerged and wreaked havoc upon human civilization. The world has never been the same since it first appeared. Some say it is a villainous beast--a dark force of evil that must be stopped at all costs, prompting the development of even more dangerous weapons. Others see it as a hero--or rather, an anti-hero--a defender of Earth, whose presence is a call for humanity to wake up and start respecting one another and the natural world. But regardless of perspective, one truth remains:

It is

THE KING OF THE MONSTERS

and its name is...

GODZILLA

"Monsters are tragic beings; they are born too tall, too strong, too heavy, they are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy." -Ishiro Honda
